Father’s Day is an annual worldwide celebration which honors fathers and their perennial influence in societies. The tradition was purportedly instigated in Monongah, West Virginia in 1907, where a memorial service was held for a group of men who died in a mining accident. Nevertheless, the event was officially propounded by Sonora Dodd –who is accredited as the founder of Father’s Day– in 1909. The day is annually observed on the third Sunday of June in the United States.
